Spring magic: What have you fallen in love with by accident?

by Marjana | Mindset tips | May 2022

Today’s post is about appreciation and the wonder of discovering things by accident that you fall in love with. I also share a story about how I fell in love when I least expected it. (Click to watch the video, or scroll down if you’d prefer to read.)

How I fell in love by accident

It’s really starting to feel like spring in London, and spring always gets me thinking about new beginnings and what I appreciate as the seasons shift. The weather today reminded me about something that happened to me when I went to a job interview which I’ll be sharing with you.

About 8 years ago, I had a job interview in Hove. I had to travel over from London, and I initially thought it was a bit annoying to have to travel down for the interview and wished it was closer.

I got there early on purpose, just in case, and had seen on the map that the sea was just 10 minutes or so away from the place I was interviewing at.

Since I had about half an hour to kill before the interview, I remember deciding to walk down to the sea. As I got to the main street and walked over to the water, I was amazed and dazzled by how beautiful it was.

I was also completely taken by surprise. I was expecting to just find somewhere to sit and wait before the interview, but I felt like I’d stumbled on an amazing treasure instead.

The wonder of discovering the unknown

Hove by the sea is still one of my favourite places. I didn’t end up getting the job, which I was disappointed about at the time. But I did discover Hove instead, which now, looking back, is something I’m much more grateful for.

It’s also an example of the way life can be surprising sometimes. I remember thinking Hove was somewhere I never even knew to want to visit, but that I absolutely loved, and in that moment I just really appreciated the surprise and the opportunity to be there and discover Hove too.

What’s something you’ve fallen in love with by accident?

I’m sure you’ve felt similarly before, that feeling of joy when you unexpectedly discover something you really love. Maybe a new place, or food, or book that you really love – and that feeling of happiness, wonder, and excitement from just stumbling on it. And then the joy of basking in and enjoying it too.

I’d love to hear in the comments if there’s something you’ve similarly just stumbled on that you fell in love with.

What would you like to pause to appreciate?

So spring blossoming right now made me think of when I accidentally discovered Hove, and made me stop and really appreciate the spring here today too.

Often I feel it can be easy to forget to pause and appreciate something, or things in general, and it is sometimes easy to just take things for granted in the bustle of our everyday lives. So I just want to take a moment right now to really celebrate those magical things we stumble on and discover – and those rich moments in life.

I’m going to you with a final thought: What’s something in your life right now that you really love, which you sometimes take for granted, but would like to just pause and appreciate right now?

If what I talked about today resonated, I’d love to hear your comments and what your takeaway is!
