How taking the time to recharge and energise makes things feel easier

by Marjana | Mindset tips | Jun 2021

Today’s post is about approaching things when you feel energised and at ease, rather than pushing through when you feel like you’re running on empty. I also cover how to start thinking about how you approach this now, and what might work better for you. (Click to watch the video, or scroll down if you’d prefer to read.)

What recharges you?

We’ve had really sunny weather here this past week or so, and it’s really started to feel like summer. It got me thinking about how much easier things feel for me in the summer when the days here are so much longer and brighter.

It made me think about well-being and what energises and recharges us generally, and how different things feel when you feel fully resourced and energised compared to when you don’t feel that way. Can you think of the difference for you?

We all have different things that charge up our batteries and makes us feel more relaxed and at ease. Some really simple examples for me are walking outside, meditating, crocheting, and cooking. The thing is, when I don’t make the time to do the things that recharge me everything feels harder.

Taking a break to recharge can make all the difference

In general, when we have a lot to do, we might feel that we need to push through and keep going. Or we might not even realise that we’re struggling. But I feel that’s when we actually need to take a break and recharge the most. And I think that making the time to do something that recharges you will not only make you feel better when you go back to what you’re doing, but it will mean you can do what you need to do with more ease afterwards.

This is something I come across when I’m coaching people when they feel overwhelmed or are going around in circles with something that feels hard to figure out or challenging in some way.

One of the things I feel can make a big difference with this is to stop, take time to recharge, and go back to it when you feel you are in a more relaxed frame of mind. I think that taking time out to give ourselves what we need to recharge actually makes it easier to do something than if we keep pushing ourselves when we are running on empty.

I also think making a habit of doing the things that recharge you regularly will help things generally feel easier and help you feel more resourced and at ease overall. I think this is especially important when it comes to things that do feel more stressful or more challenging.

Questions to help you think start thinking about this

I invite you to ask yourself these questions to start thinking about how you’re approaching this right now and what might work better for you:

  • What energises and recharges you?
  • What do you need to be at your best?
  • How much do you feel you currently make the time to recharge as much as you would ideally like to?
  • What, if anything, would you like to make time to do more regularly?

To sum up

I feel that we all need time to recharge and energise, and I believe that making the time to do that regularly means we can approach things with a clearer mind and more ease than if we’re trying to push through things when we feel like we’re running on empty.
