Do you feel like something is missing from your life?

Do you feel unfulfilled and like something is missing from your life – but you’re not sure what or how to figure it out? In today’s post, I share what I believe can be missing and talk about how a feeling of unfulfillment can be the key to change if you want to start creating a life that’s fulfilling and meaningful to you. Does it feel like something is missing?

As a coach, something I sometimes come across when I work with people is a feeling of unfulfillment and lack that’s vague, where people can’t quite pinpoint what it is that’s missing in their lives. 

Some people already have a sense of where that unfulfillment stems from – maybe it’s work, a relationship, or something else. But for others, it’s more vague, and something just feels unexpressed and unfulfilled. 

Do you feel stuck and unfulfilled?

You might feel a yearning that’s there under the layers, buried so that it feels dusty and unmet. But you don’t know what it is and what to do to feel different. You just know there are parts of you that feel like they’re not getting what they truly want and need.

Maybe things feel fine. You don’t know why you’re not happy. You ‘should’ be happy and content, but deep down that’s just not how you feel, and you have a sense that there’s more to life, and more from life that you want.

Maybe there’s a part of you that feels scared at the idea of change too. It feels easier to just go along with things the way they are. But more and more things don’t weigh up, and you know something has to change. The problem is you don’t know what to change or where to start.

What do you really want and need?

I believe what’s often missing is part of what someone really longs for and needs to feel fulfilled isn’t being met in their lives. And this may or may not be something someone is already aware of themselves. Either way, the space and time they need to honour those desires aren’t being fully met. At the heart of it, I believe the essence of why life can feel unfulfilling can be when we’re disconnected from what it is we really want and need to feel fulfilled.

Sometimes, someone might not even realise or know what they’re missing or yearning for until they start exploring what sits under that initial feeling of discontent and unfulfillment. And that feeling is all they have to start with, but that feeling is enough to act as the key that can be a starting point to changing and creating a more fulfilling life.

When I work with people who feel unfulfilled in this way, I help them explore and get to the heart of what’s really missing for them, and explore ways to add that into the mix of their lives, so that those unfulfilled needs and values can start being met. And there are so many areas this can be done in – for example, at work, in relationships, hobbies, and any other areas that come up.

It does take courage to look at what’s missing, and it’s understandable if it feels scary or daunting, but I believe it’s completely worth it. Sometimes the changes people decide to make can be big ones. Sometimes they’re small ones, and a few tweaks here and there can make all the difference. Each person decides and gets to set the pace that works for them. Either way, I believe living fully and feeling fulfilled day to day is completely worth the  soul-searching it takes to get there.

Change can be simpler than you’re expecting
